At this point, you’ve probably thought about reading a book or two but then decided not to, thinking that it’s not for you. At least that’s what I thought before reading my first book. It was from a renowned book series called, “The Maze Runner”. It took me five months to read the first book — I know it is a long time to finish a book — but after I finished it I thought “Well, that wasn’t so bad”. I decided to read the rest of the series in one year and surprisingly, I did.

That was in the year 2019 and was the beginning of my journey. As of 2022, I have read 28 books and these are the reasons why reading books is totally worth it.

Enhanced Imagination

One of the best things about books is that they can be very descriptive. Now don’t get me wrong, it can be annoying too. You don’t want the book to be so descriptive that it takes your focus away from the main plot. But when you read a book with just the right amount of detail, you can feel the environment and the tension built during every scene.

And book getting an adaptation is just icing on the cake, it feels so satisfying to watch when it resembles your imagination and it is even better when it goes beyond your imagination. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is a great example of it.

Relating To A Character

The key element to enjoying a book is to relate to a character. It is so easy to love a book if you love a character in it. If you can put yourself in the shoes of a character, you can then completely immerse yourself in that world and nothing feels more rewarding than watching that character’s arc.

Vocabulary

It is impossible not to improve your vocab once you start reading books. Having good vocab is crucial because as you get old, at some point, you will have to start writing and talking formally. It puts a great impression of yourself on the people you meet in your professional life.

There Is Always Something To Learn

The thing about books is that everyone knows that they are a source of information. Good writers have great imagination and knowledge, that is how they make it that far. Even after they are long gone, their name lives on. Writing a book is not an easy task. So when you read these books, you realize how much you don’t know. Remember, knowing what you don’t know is a great quality to have.

Sense Of Achievement

This is what made me read more books. When you start reading a book, you go through a journey along with the characters. And when that journey comes to an end, the feeling that overtakes you is what makes reading a book so special. It is like having vacations after final exams.

Conclusion

Everything about book-reading feels right. You get to learn a lot of new things including life lessons, appreciation for the author’s imagination, emotional connection to a character, empathy, and a sense of accomplishment. So, what is stopping you from reading?
